This Hotel was definatly not of four star standard. The only slightly positive thing about the hotel was the location but I would not stay there again becouse of this. The entrance was very smelly, the carpets were dirty, the breakfast was mediocor.

PLEASE NOTE THE RATING ABOVE IS FOR THE SAVOY HOTEL -
I am unable to rate the Ludowici Palace Hotel except for the location and the staff which I rate 5 each - excellent, as when we arrived at 11pm we discovered they had overbooked and had no available rooms. The staff at Ludowici were very apologetic and had arranged for us to stay in the Savoy - about 50 meters away. Ludowici staff helped us with our bags to the Savoy and introduced us at Savoy. The Staff at the Savoy were witing for us and had everything ready. This could have been a disaster however it was handled so well - we were quite impressed.
We had a wonderful stay Rome and later discovered that the Savoy was probably an upgrade from the Ludowici - at no extra cost to us of course!.
The location was fantastic and we would stay in this area again.

Best way to see Rome is on foot. Guided tours for some of the attractions is a good idea as it helps with the queues and you get so much more information - especially the Vatican and the Colosseum.

Poor sound insulation between rooms meant we had very little sleep the first night. Breakfast pretty basic. No comfortable lounge area. Staff were very helpful and pleasant and recommended some excellent local restaurants. Overall however not up to the standrad of a 4 star hotel for the price we paid.

Reception staff were a little hit and miss. Reasonably helpful but didn't know information such as how to get to Ciampino airport, which you would expect to be a fairly frequent question! Also got a wake-up call at 6:55 when we hadn't asked for one! Other than that, a good hotel.
Top Tip
Careful when asking for any condiments such as butter with your meals. We were charged an extra 3 Euros for a tiny amount! Also, they won't give you tap water, only bottles which can be up to 5 Euros! Taxi's are reasonably inexpensive but fares double after 10pm, not midnight like in the UK.

Not value for money. Disappointed. Hotel in need of redecoration, replacement of carpets in general areas etc. Bathroom very small compared to photo on website.
Top Tip
a visit to Peperone restaurant on Via Veneto. Good food at reasonable prices with very efficient service.

Room was clean and spacious, staff were wonderful. The rest of the hotel is basic, few facilities and breakfast was awful. Great location though.

felt we would rather have been more central and having to climb spanish steps twice a dayin the heat not recommended. Would have liked a hotel with a little outside space.

TRASTEVERE area felt like real Rome even the food was not the tourist variety.
See the Vatican with a guide it's amazing what you would miss otherwise.

A little dissapointed that there was no restaurant in the hotel although very good restaurants close by. The bar area could be made more comfortable. Otherwise everything excellent.
Top Tip
Ciao Roma city tour open top buses stop 100 yards from hotel. Metro close by (4 stops to Vatican City). Easy walk to Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountains, other landmarks and shops.

Nice central location in a quiet spot off Via Venito. A bit of a climb if you have walking difficulties, but I guess that covers most of Rome!
Top Tip
Peperone on Via Venito is a very nice family run restaurant. Excellent pasta & pizzas. For vegetarian's (and everyone else :-)Margutta Restaur'arte (sic) just the other side of the Spanish steps near Popolo (on Via Margutta) is good food and good value for lunch and very classy for an excellent evening meal. 5 stars!
